Gratitude and meditation are the quiet foundation under almost everything else on this site. Gratitude is the habit of noticing what is already good: the coffee, the friend who texted back, the body that got you up the stairs. Meditation is the habit of sitting with your attention on one thing, usually the breath, and gently coming back when you wander. Neither requires special equipment, a belief system, or a purchase. That is part of why they have lasted.

People come to these practices for many reasons: less stress, better sleep, a way to stop spinning on the same worry at 2 a.m. In the manifestation world, gratitude is often framed as "the fastest way to raise your vibration." Believers say that thankfulness draws more to be thankful for. We'll put it more plainly. Gratitude turns your attention toward what is working, and meditation gives you a few minutes a day when you are not reacting to anything. Both are reasonably well studied, and both help many people feel steadier. They are not cures, and they are not a replacement for care if you are struggling.

The sensible way to begin is small. Three things you are grateful for, written before bed. Two minutes of breathing before you check your phone. The common mistake is to aim for twenty minutes of silence on day one and then quit on day three. Another is to use gratitude to bully yourself ("I should be grateful") when what you really need is to feel the hard feeling first. Gratitude works best as a practice of noticing, not a rule about how you are supposed to feel.

The articles in this section offer short guided meditations, gratitude journal prompts that don't get stale, ways to meditate when you can't sit still, how to pair gratitude with a money or love practice, and what to expect in the first month. Expect calmer mornings, fewer spirals, and a slightly wider view of your own life. Those are modest expectations, which is exactly why we are comfortable stating them.
